Formentera presses charges following local business’s defiance of public health protocol

Formentera Local Police are pressing charges against a Sant Ferran business after officers found total capacity was exceeded and patrons were smoking in outdoor seating areas — both violations of public health rules related to the Covid-19 pandemic. Pursuit of the charges will depend on the Balearic office of emergencies, but considering previous citations and temporary shuttering for flouting Covid measures, the Consell de Formentera will ask the regional government to close the business.

Once again local officials urge islanders and Formentera business owners to act responsibly amid the ongoing pandemic. Strict compliance with safety protocol is crucial to avoiding flare-ups that risk undermining public health and the start of the season. For this reason, local law enforcement will be reinforcing controls and patrols at the weekend.
