Over the next seven months, a company specialising in network monitoring, auditing and optimisation (Wireless DNA) "will study the coverage situation on the island, identify service gaps and suggest improvements to providers".

In the words of Vanessa Parellada, new technologies councillor, the study, which was commissioned in response to complaints over the last two years from private and professional users, including traders and taxi drivers, "aims to deliver objective data on the problems that islanders have highlighted in places where coverage has historically existed, and study the so-called dead zones".

This study, which will be conducted before and during summer, will analyse the coverage and capacity of mobile telephony on Formentera and offer a comparative and independent evaluation of the various providers (Orange, Vodafone, Movistar). Mobile and fixed probes will be installed to collect data on coverage issues. This data can then be used to request action from providers or identify service failures. The project timeframe is seven months and the cost is €17,908 including VAT.
