"Vívete: Lives Inspiring Lives" returns to Formentera

The Formentera Office of Youth Affairs is pleased to report that the third "Vívete: Lives Inspiring Lives" will take place 25 October at the Sala de Cultura-Cinema in Sant Francesc. Roughly 300 students from IES Marc Ferrer will take part in this seminar designed to promote values and positive attitudes and help participants manage their emotions. According to Vanessa Parellada, councillor of youth affairs, young people at the event "will hear new stories of inspiring, emotional and stimulating lives".

This year's seminar welcomes adventurer and explorer Nacho Dean (the first person in history to walk around the world and swim across 5 continents), Afghan writer and refugee Nadia Ghulam (who for years posed as her late brother to evade the Taliban regime's rigid restrictions on women) and Menorcan swimmer Tita Llorens (the first woman to swim, without a wetsuit, from the Balearic Islands to the mainland).

Vívete director Carlos Ramón says the conference "grew out of a desire to work with leading experts in the field to promote human values, personal empowerment and the tools that lead us to a solid and conscious personal development in a fun way".

The Consell de Formentera collaborates with this event to make it accessible to local youth.

Casal de Joves unveils October activities programme

The Formentera Office of Youth Affairs is pleased to announce the activities that have been organised at the Casal de Joves this October. Vanessa Parellada, Councilor of Youth Affairs, highlighted "the theme of terror" that will invade the youth drop-in centre at month's end: "All Saints Day and Halloween celebrations have been extremely well received in years past, though of course we'll be celebrating homespun traditions like the trencada de pinyons, too".

The kick-off hits today with an evening sofa-and-popcorn session, where youngsters can take in a horror film to set the mood for the holidays ahead. Additional Wednesday night movies are scheduled 19 and 26 October.

Friday 7 October, moonlighting singers choose their own songs at a live karaoke session. Saturday 8 October, team games and challenges as part of a gymkhana in and around the Casal. Friday 14 October, youth can join in a game of Twister. Saturday 15 October, table tennis aficionados are invited to the Casal for a tournament.

Friday 21 October, a climbing wall activity will be staged at Es Roco in Sant Francesc (places are limited, so register in advance at the Casal). Saturday 22 October the Casal will don horror regalia and host a trencada de pinyons. Finally, Sunday and Monday (30 and 31 October) will see the return of the Casal del Terror. The activity is for children over 12 and will take place at the Casa de Colònies from 8.00pm. (Tickets are required; pick them up at the Casal from Thursday 13 October. Participants must be in fancy dress.)

The Casal de Joves opens Tuesday to Saturday from 4.00pm to 10.00pm. All are welcome to visit and play board games, table tennis, table football and more. The Casal team of activity leaders is always there, too.
