This March, Casal de Joves turns 15

The Office of Youth Affairs of the Consell de Formentera is pleased to announce the activities programmed at the Casal de Joves during the month of March. Vanessa Parellada, youth affairs councillor pointed out that the island's youth drop-in centre will turn 15 this month, and to celebrate, the team are preparing a very special party for Casal youth and staff.

The activities bill starts today, Friday 3 March, with young people enjoying an evening of memory games. Tomorrow will come with an evening of art, where youth will tap into their creative side.

On International Women's Day, 8 March, a related film will be shown. "These days offer a chance for young people to get in touch with political struggles and history, and to foment a critical spirit that serves to make the world fairer and more egalitarian", said Vanessa Parellada.

Activities will continue all month long, with games on Friday (10 March), a table tennis tournament on Saturday (11 March), a collage workshop on Wednesday (15 March), a henna workshop on Friday (17 March), crafts for families on Saturday (19 March), a screening of the film "Green Book" on Wednesday (22 March), a custard cooking workshop on Friday (24 March), "Holi Intercultural" on Saturday (25 March) and the film "Planet 51" on Wednesday (29 March).

At the end of the month, on Friday (31 March), a party will be held to celebrate the drop-in centre's fifteenth anniversary. The Casal de Joves is for young people ages ten and up and is open from 4.00pm to 10.00pm, Tuesday to Saturday, all year long.

Casal de Joves presents February activities programme

foto 2023ii cdjThe Office of Youth Affairs of the Consell de Formentera is pleased to announce the activities scheduled at the Casal de Joves this February. Vanessa Parellada, youth affairs councillor, explained that, as every month, young people and staff at the island's youth drop-in centre "have tailored a programme to the tastes of Casal youth, with everything from classic creative games to more recent hits like a trip to the go-kart track on Eivissa."

The programme starts today with a film night, settee and popcorn included, and a second session will take place Wednesday 22 February. This Friday (3 February), it's a universal classic and favourite among youth at the Casal: bowling, this time using repurposed material. And Saturday (4 February), Casal youth can belt out all their favourite tunes at an individual and group karaoke session.

Next Wednesday (8 February), a mask-making workshop will be held ahead of this month's Carnival. Then on Friday (10 February), the crowd at the Casal will prepare a classic recipe, rice pudding. Saturday (11 February) is the day to plug in the Wii Sport to enjoy virtual sports in pairs and groups.

The activities continue on Wednesday 15 February with freestyle dance, self-expression games and rhythmic movement. At Dance al Casal, Thursday 16 February, participants will stage a group choreography. Saturday 18 February, youth can get decked out in temporary tattoos. Friday 24 February, the gang will play the family version of memory and card games with familiar faces from the Casal and beyond.

Go-karting on Eivissa
Finally, one of the most eagerly awaited activities on the bill happens Saturday 25 February: an outing to the Eivissa go-kart track. Advance registration is required, but the activity is free for all Casal members.

The Casal de Joves team leads all activities. The centre is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 4.00pm to 10.00pm. More information about activities is available on site, or by sending an email to casal@conselldeformentera.cat or calling 971 323 493.

Meeting with director of Office for Children and Adolescents of Balearic Islands

foto 2022xii oficina infancia adolescenciaToday Vanessa Parellada, councillor of youth affairs and citizen participation, met with Josep Lluís Riera, director of the Office of Children and Adolescents of the Balearic Islands (OIAIB), managers of departments of the Consell, and representatives of Formentera groups focused on children and youth. Riera wanted to explain OIAIB's work to defend and promote the rights of youth in the islands and he pointed up his readiness and availability for whatever they may need.

Councillor Parellada welcomed Riera's visit, which bridges the divide between resources in the Balearic Islands and local groups and their members. The local representatives described a need for help from government agencies in their work with children and young people, especially if suspicions exist around possible situations of abuse. Riera said that safeguarding the rights of minors is the responsibility of society as a whole. For her part, Councillor Parellada pledged to seek new ways to coordinate with groups, together with the Formentera Office of Social Welfare, and work together on prevention.
