November activities at Casal de Joves

The Formentera Office of Youth Affairs is pleased to present the activities bill for the month ahead at Formentera's youth drop-in centre. Vanessa Parellada, councillor of youth, underscored activities related to International Children's Day on 20 November. Councillor Parellada asserted that her office and the Casal de Joves seek out programmes "that emphasise the rights of children and young people and awareness building activities".

The programme starts Wednesday 2 November with a film screening. Friday 4 November, a workshop will be held in which participants will learn to make wool octopuses; Saturday 5 November, island youth can join in a tournament of table football; Wednesday 9 November, young people can dance with the video game "Just Dance"; Friday 11 November, participants in a cooking workshop will prepare a savoury dish, and Saturday 12 November, youth at the Casal can take part in a bracelet workshop. Friday 18 November, youth representatives will attend the eleventh Children's Parliament at the Parliament of the Balearic Islands.

Family excursion by bicycle and boat
One of the month's highlights –a family bike ride– is included in the International Children's Day programme and will take place Saturday 19 November. Youngsters and their families will walk along Estany des Peix to the Nautical Sports Centre. From there, they will embark on a boat ride. To sign up, stop in at the Casal de Joves.

Activities continue Wednesday 23 November with a group game of jumping rope. Friday 25 November, Casal youth will personalise T-shirts from the "No Means No!" (No i punt!) campaign in collaboration with the Formentera Office of Social Welfare.

Saturday 26 November there will be an open day for anyone who wants to discover the Casal de Joves. "It is a chance for local families, adults and children to get to know the facilities and come to play table football, table tennis and other games", said Councillor Parellada.

Finally, Wednesday 30 November, at a regular assembly of the Participatory Council of Children and Youth, student representatives and politicians of the island will collect proposals from students.

The Casal de Joves is for children and young people aged ten and up and opens Tuesday to Saturday, 4.00pm to 10.00pm, all year long.
