Ses Illetes and Cavall d’en Borràs reopen from 6.00pm, preventive controls still in place

The Consell de Formentera President’s Office reports it has rescinded the executive order that mandated the 6.00pm closure of points of access to the Cavall d’en Borràs and Ses Illetes areas of Ses Salines Nature Reserve. The original order was approved on 4 August in a bid to prevent parties on the beaches of the protected space.

President Ferrer applauded the success of the closure, reasoning it “prevented crowds of people who, due to the covid, were placing all of us at risk”. She also sounded off about how such gatherings led to uncivic behaviour which had taken a toll on the surrounding ecosystem.

Entry restrictions at the reserve were loosened on Monday 6 September, but periodic patrols continue, aiming to prevent crowds at beaches, and they will continue over the next few days, according to the president.
