Consell gets seven new electric vehicles

The fully-electric, 340-kilometre-range Peugeot 208s cost €203,903 (VAT included), money which came from the Balearic government’s Sustainability Fund in compliance with national legislation on sustainability.

President Ferrer hailed the new EVs as one more example of Formentera’s longstanding commitment to sustainable mobility. She highlighted 30 local EV charging stations and other perks that the island’s government offers EV drivers. Motorists who contact the OAC can also get a card to use municipal recharge points at no cost, plus get rebates to park in blue zone spots and beneath Plaça Europa.

Formentera’s Sustainable Mobility Plan calls for local government to renew its EV fleet “to improve energy efficiency and cut emissions”, FDM chief González pointed out. The vehicles will be used by Formentera’s offices of island services, inspections, mobility, new technologies, land and activities, not to mention the municipal clerk, local police and others. Included in the Consell’s current 11-piece EV fleet are the seven cars presented today, a van and three motorbikes.
