The message of Eivissa and Formentera’s Feminist Classrooms? Human rights for women, now more than ever

Tomorrow Thursday to Saturday 19 September, the Balearic Institute of the Woman-hosted and Consell de Formentera-backed Feminist Classrooms (Aules Feministes) initiative tackles its latest subject: “The human rights of women, now more than ever”. At Eivissa’s Can Ventosa the clinics will be closed to the public but livecasted, while Hotel Insotel Formentera Playa de Formentera will offer in-person attendance as well as online retransmission of the talks.

On Friday evening, Maria Durán, who chairs the Balearic Institute of the Woman, or IBdona, will be joined by Formentera’s equality chief, Vanessa Parellada, in discussing restoring the life projects of gender violence victims. Parties interested in attending should telephone department staffer Azucena Carrasco at 971.32.12.71, though the talks can also be viewed live on IBdona’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

2020 is more than IBdona’s twentieth year in existence, it also marks the 25th anniversary of the Beijing World Conference on Women and forty years since the adoption of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). Indeed, IBdona describes the group’s latest initiative as a space for learning and reflection that strives for real equality between women and men.
