Today Formentera's Local Security Board convened for an ordinary session co-chaired by Ana Juan, President of the Consell, and Aina Calvo, the Central government's delegate in the Balearic Islands, who participated virtually. The event was also attended by island director Enrique Sánchez; Alejandra Ferrer, Vice President and GxF representative; Rafael Ramírez, Councillor of Social Welfare and PSOE representative; Josep Marí, Councillor of Interior; Llorenç Córdoba, of Sa Unió; members of the Civil Guard, National Police, Local Police and Civil Protection, and the fire chief.
First, President Juan assessed the past tourist season and remarked that "in an extraordinary situation such as last summer's pandemic, our security forces also responded in an extraordinary way: with efficiency and coordination". This year, Juan requested that that collaboration continue and, in the case of "maritime Guardia Civil controls at events, beaches, on boats and with regard to unlawful itinerant selling", that their controls be expanded. She also asserted, "We must not lower our guard against COVID-19 and we must continue with inspections and controls so that Formentera remains a safe destination".
Red Cross service point on Formentera
On the illegal arrival of migrants in boats, the President offered that the Formentera Office of Social Welfare is working in coordination with the Red Cross to provide a first aid service. "This is good news to ensure that arriving migrants receive care in the best possible conditions", she said.
The island director, Enrique Sánchez, has highlighted "the excellent collaboration between the security forces and the local, regional and state administrations; this is the great strength we have to provide the best service to the citizens". The island director has also advanced that "we are working on the implementation of a unit of the Guardia Civil del Mar in Eivissa, which will support Formentera".
The Councillor of Interior pressed the administrations for an expanded presence of security forces, underlining a need for more agents to enforce environmental regulations at the nature reserve as well as, from the Guardia Civil, more year-round officers from the traffic department and more agents from the Citizen Security Unit. In the case of the latter, Marí highlighted "very good coordination that we want to maintain in 2022". But above all, Councillor Josep Marí said the increased Guardia Civil presence was about effectively controlling Formentera's 72 kilometres of coastline. "In summer there is a huge influx of people on the water", the Councillor added, "and we need to make sure they are are following the rules. It is a matter of environmental sustainability and navigator and swimmer safety".

Today at the January full-house session of the Consell de Formentera, the Gent per Formentera (GxF) and Socialist cabinet secured backing for the 2022 proposal on quotas and an enforcement period for Formentera.eco, as well as a proposed agreement to amend the tax ordinance governing fees to bring and drive a vehicle on the island.
Today Ana Juan, the President and Councillor of Entrepreneurship of the Consell de Formentera, welcomed three more new hires from the first round of recruitment under SOIB Reactiva. The individuals will work for the island's government for the next six months. Two women will work as administrative assistants and one man will work as a brigade operator.
Today Ana Juan, President of the Consell de Formentera announced in a press conference that the island has entered tier 3 of public health alert — the same as the rest of the Balearic Islands. Endorsed by the Government Council, the change will take effect today on publication of one-off edition of the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (Butlletí Oficial de les Illes Balears, BOIB).
