Approval of ordinance regulating public mooring fees at S'Estany des Peix

foto 2022v ple extraToday members of the Consell de Formentera convened for a one-off plenary session which secured initial approval for an ordinance regulating public fees to moor watercraft at S'Estany des Peix. The proposal passed with "yes" votes from the cabinet (GxF and PSOE) despite the abstention of the opposition (Sa Unió). This ordinance was drafted after a period of public consultation; with initial approval now secured, members of the public will have 30 calendar days to submit comments. Antoni Tur, Councillor of Environment, pointed out that "the environmental deterioration brought about by uncontrolled anchoring" in Ses Salines Nature Reserve made regulation imperative. The system, according to Councillor Tur, "prioritises the traditional use of small boats with limited engine power" as well as other aspects like the time that a boat-owner has been anchoring. He also pointed out that discounts would apply to individuals with traditional boats, retirees and large families.

The vast majority of individuals who use the lake have boats that are small or medium-sized, and will pay between €50 and €135 a month. Among the discounts for which users may be eligible, retirees will get 40% off; large families, 30% off; users of traditional types of vessels, 15% off, and users of zero-emission vessels, 25% off.

foto 2022 socorristes BThe Consell de Formentera Lifeguard Service, part of the Formentera Office of Interior, has led an educational push to inform tourists and residents about conditions at beaches during the swimming season, 1 May to 30 October. The status of Formentera's beaches will be updated daily at 11.00am at www.platgesdebalears.com.

The Consell has printed posters in Catalan, Spanish and English with a QR code that redirects to this website. The aim is to offer tourists and residents a resource where they can find out about the weather, jellyfish and available beach-front services, including lifeguard and safety facilities, as well as information about each area.

These posters can be found on the websites of the Formentera Office of Tourism (formentera.es) and the Consell de Formentera and at tourist information points. They will additionally be made available to the ferry companies and local hotels and restaurants.
